Virginia Law requires, under Code Section 3.2-6548 that no director, operator, staff or caregiver of any Shelter (SPCA, Humane Society, etc.) may have been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect or abandonment. The Stafford SPCA will not even consider employing, or allowing anyone to volunteer, who has been convicted of any of those, or related crimes.

Regarding applications, resumes and application packages, we classify submissions in 3 categories, Good – Better – Best.

Good: Download our employment application, print, fill in and email to [email protected] or fax to (866) 522-8042. Employment Application.

Better: Download and complete the Employment Application AND provide your updated resume, including salary history and, at least, 3 references. Send via email or fax using the information listed above.
BEST: Follow the steps below to complete the application process.

A: Submit a current resume “brochure”.

Use colors, borders, insert photos and personal / animal related content. Be specific about computer skills, internet skills, and other related skills. We want to see that you can be creative and use various media in your submission. This document should be created in Word, and be a two-sided, tri-fold design.

B: Create a PowerPoint presentation.

Tell us about yourself and your animal & work experiences. Your PowerPoint presentation should be a minimum of 4 slides, more would be better. This document will serve as your introduction to us and give you the chance to stand out among other applicants. We want to see that you can use the program creatively and effectively to convey to us, who you are, what you care about and the skills you bring to the table for the desired position. We need to know that you truly are proficient with the program.

C: Submit a current chronological resume in Word format.

This document should serve as a timeline for your work experience and must include salary history and 3 references.

The reason we ask for the Word and PowerPoint documents is because it tells us that you can proficiently use two Microsoft based programs that we use constantly during the course of our work day. Consider the application package your “technological interview” before your face-to-face interview. We want to see that you can take information about yourself and show your personality in a unique and creative format. If you cannot use these programs, you will not be able to perform all aspects of the job for which you are applying.

All resumes and PPT presentations should be emailed as attachments within the same email to [email protected] . DO NOT FAX. Please do NOT send individual emails for each attachment or send an email later to include something you forgot to include. We will not be piecing the submissions together and will only consider complete packages.

*All applicants are subject to a criminal background check.*

Happy Gotcha Day Sadie!!

One year ago today Sadie was adopted by her amazing people. Sadie had a very rough life prior to finding her forever home. She changed hands at least 8 times and even had an owner that shot her before coming into our care!
Now she is spoiled rotten and we can't think of a dog that deserves it more than she does.
Her parents report that they got her "a small dog-friendly cake to celebrate. Over the year, she has enjoyed hanging out with her brother Ben (the kitty), belly rubs, car rides, walks, lots of DogTV, a standing monthly spa appointment and is also currently enjoying a monthly Bark Box subscription."
We just can't thank them enough for all they have done for this sweet girl!

Thank you for taking your time to make us handmade beds for our shelter kitties and coming up to donate them to us.

These industrious young ladies will be earning their Silver Award with us at the end of this month, so stay tuned for pictures of all their hard work for our shelter critters.
